Fr. Edward Houlder, the Catholic priest, was the
founder of the Company. In 1849, he commenced the
business of Houlder Brothers & Company Limited.
In 1988, China Merchants Group became a shareholder
of Houlder and the name of the Company was changed
to Houlder Insurance. Houlder Insurance Brokers
Limited in Hong Kong is the sister company of
Houlder Insurance Brokers Limited (in the UK)
and is also one of the largest marine insurance
brokers in Hong Kong.
Following a reorganisztion at the end of 1996,
the business of Houlder Insurance Brokers Limited
(in the UK) was transferred to Houlder Insurance
Services Limited. The new company is a Lloyd's
broker which provides efficient and quality service
to customers.
