China Merchants Finance Investment Holdings Company
Limited (“CMFIH”) was established in Shenzhen by the China
Merchants Group on 28 May 1997 with a registered capital
of RMB600 Million.
To achieve the Group’s management objective of “Business
in Diversification and Management in Professionalization”,
the China Merchants Group restructured its financial service
business and set up China Merchants Finance Holdings Company
Limited (“CMFH”) in June 1999. CMFH is a first-tier subsidiary
directly under the China Merchants Group. It is principally
engaged in the financial service business and related
investments, and provides professional guidance and advice
with regard to the financial service business of the Group
in accordance with the authorisation given by it. The
financial assets of the China Merchants Group are categorised
as Banking, Insurance, Securities, Fund Investment and
Asset Management. The financial service business is one
of the core businesses of the China Merchants Group, and
in the past decade, it was the pillar sector of the Group
and also the main source of profit for the Group.
In order to build up an operational platform, carry
out essential reorganisations, strengthen management and
optimise asset portfolio with regard to its financial
assets in China, the China Merchants Group has authorised
CMFH to operate and manage CMFIH since 1999. After a series
of reorganisations, CMFIH currently holds a number of
financial assets including a 14.97% interest in China
Merchants Securities Company Limited, a 10% interest in
Houlder China Insurance Brokers Limited and a 3.75% interest
in Hua Tai Insurance Company of China Limited. As of the
end of 2001, the audited total assets of CMFIH were RMB904
Million while the audited net assets were RMB897 Million.
The audited profits for 2001 were RMB41.37 Million.
